This is great practice, but I am not going to ask that you do that.

In order for us to get through the material I need to complete 5 lessons per week and we will skip lessons 10, 18, and 19.

Using a number path to add and subtract

Monday May 11 Embarc scroll down to Lesson 37

Today you are going to be learning how to use a number path to add and subtract. Be very careful to put your finger on the number that you are supposed to start with and count your jumps. Often kids want to count the number they begin with, but it will not work. You must count the jumps. The number your finger ends up on is your answer. Complete your math packet pages for lesson 37 by having someone read the story problem and then filling in the missing numbers in your number sentence.

Tuesday May 12 Embarc scroll down to Lesson 38

Use the number path to add one more. Color the circles in the 5 group way. You will be looking for a pattern. Complete your math packet pages for lesson 38. Use different numbers for the last two problems.

Wednesday May 13 Embarc scroll down to Lesson 39

In this lesson the 5 group is turned vertical and your number bond spins around, so look carefully at your models before you add your dots and numbers. Please follow along with the teacher. You will need your white board or pencil and paper. Check to see that you are counting on from the number given. Complete your math packet pages for lesson 39. Solve the number sentences at the bottom of the page. What tool did you use to help you solve the number sentences? Did you use a path, your fingers, or a five group?

Thursday May 14 Embarc scroll down to Lesson 40

The first page of the packet is finding all of the numbers to get to 10. I would like you to start with the number one then complete the number sentence. Then use the number 2 and complete the number sentence, and so on using one more each time. The second page is just like the teacher modeled. Complete your math packet pages for lesson 40.

Don’t forget to color your star!

Subtraction Means to Take Away

NOTE: Parents there is a parent informational letter for Topic G, that will provide the focus for the next set of lessons. The letter is located just above lesson 34.

Students: Today you are going to learn how to write the subtraction number sentence. Remember that subtraction means to “take away”. If it is hard for you, practice on the 5 group card I sent with your math tools first. Then make it on your paper or board to match your 5 group card. Complete your math packet pages for lesson 35

Today you are going to watch the video and follow along with the teacher using your white board or pencil and paper. Be sure to make your models using the 5 group way. When you take some away be sure to start taking away from the bottom row. If it is hard for you, practice on the 5 group card I sent with your math tools first. Then make it on your paper or board to match your 5 group card. Complete your math packet pages for lesson 36.

Due:

April 27- May 1st

This week we are really focusing on making a picture the "5 group way". This is demonstrated over and over on the Embarc lessons given for each lesson. On Thursday I will post an assessment math problem. The students may complete it on Thursday or Friday. It is due Friday by 3:00. Please do not assist your child in completing the assessment. You may ask them; did you remember your drawing the 5 group way? Did you remember your number bond? Did you write a number sentence? And you can read the story to them. It is okay to make a mistake. When we fix our mistakes that is when we really learn. So I need to see how they are doing. If they make a mistake I will be checking in with them to fix it. Thank you for working with your children. You are doing a great job. I am here for you if you need anything.
