COVID Talking Points

Talking to Elementary Students About COVID-19
“Anything that's human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting and less scary.”
- Mister Rogers

Provide brief, simple information that balances COVID-19 facts with appropriate reassurances that adults are there to help keep them healthy and to take care of them if they do get sick. Give simple examples of the steps people make every day to stop germs and stay healthy, such as washing hands.
Suggested language to use:
  • "Everything is going to be alright."
  • "Adults are working hard to keep you safe."
  • "There are lots of amazing grown ups are working hard to keep people health. Luckily, we already know a lot about how to keep healthy!"
  • "We can protect other people by being germ-busters - this is how we help others (wash hands frequently, not touching face, keeping 6 feet apart, etc.)."
